By now you heard about the big flaw in Intel chips that is shaking up the tech industry at its foundation. If you haven’t heard, researchers at Graz’s University of Technology in Austria found a fundamental flaw in CPUs that was due to a vulnerability in the architecture which has existed for the past 20 years. All CPU makers are considered to be vulnerable to the attacks known as Meltdown and Spectre. However Intel is the most vulnerable and is expected to take the biggest hit.

If you want to learn about what Meltdown and Spectre are, you should Google it. The blog post is not trying to get into the technical details. We don’t want to confuse you even more than you probably already are. Just know they are both serious security concerns which may have a detrimental effect on the health of your IT Systems.

Intel has been the CPU king in the industry for many years. It powers an overwhelming majority of technology from computer, laptops, tablets, to servers. If you have modern technology, you more than likely have an Intel CPU.

Everyone across the industry is now scrambling to figure out how to address this flaw. manufacturers are scrambling to create and deploy patches. Customer are stuck trying to figure out what to do. Resellers like us are working with customers to help them find alternatives to Intel Powered Devices.

For the near future we have to wait and see how this is addressed. Intel and other companies seem just to be releasing vague statements and noone is buying it. Long term, this will change the foundation of CPU architecture. How will that affect performance? Will CPU manufacturers have to sacrifice performance for added security? We will all have to wait and see.
