Now you probably heard a lot about cloud services and cloud solutions, and how they can benefit your company. You probably heard about private, public, and hybrid cloud solutions. Have no fear Compulink Technologies is here to clear up the noise and break cloud services into simple understanding. Hopefully, this will help you be more open to the cloud as more and more businesses move to it.

Types of Cloud Services

You have three main types of cloud services to choose from. Software, Platform, and Infrastructure as a service.

Software as a Service (SaaS)- Software as a service is basically any software you pay to have access to. The most common examples would be Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. They are now software as a service. You pay a monthly subscription fee to use the software. You no longer pay hundreds of dollars for the disc to install the software. This makes it easier for companies to purchase and use the software based on the need.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)- Platform as a service is a form of cloud computing that is used to build, run, and manage applications. A common example is Google App Engine. Basically, Google gives the users the hardware and software tools, while it hosts the actual hardware and software infrastructure. PaaS is primarily for app building.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)- Infrastructure as a service is when a third party host servers, networking security, and firewalls. It may even host a fully build data center building. IaaS can be used for hosting things from website and web applications to high-performance computing, and big data analysis. It is most commonly used for storage, backup, and recovery. Companies like IBM, Google, and Amazon Web Services are most commonly known for providing this services. These are virtualized computing services delivered over the internet.

Types of Clouds

You have probably heard about the types of clouds out there Public, Private, and Hybrid. These clouds are used for IaaS most commonly. So let’s break them down.

Public Cloud- It is as the term suggest a public cloud. A cloud provider is storing your data in a public cloud with the data of other users. The responsibility of maintaining the infrastructure and security falls on the cloud provider. It is useful for storing and backing up nonsensitive data.

Private Cloud- A private cloud is a cloud that is exclusively yours, and only hosts your data. You can host it with your own infrastructure or through a third party. This is the best solution to store sensitive and important data.

Hybrid Cloud- This is a combination of public and private clouds. Essentially a third party can store different data segments in either their public cloud or private. Or if you host your own private cloud, and use a third party public cloud as well.

The benefits of the cloud are enormous, cloud service can help you reduce cost and enhance innovation. No matter the size and scope of your organization, you can find the right cloud solution for you.
